Environment Agency Publishes Guidance “End of Life Vehicles: Information for Authorised Treatment Facilities”
29 October 2009

The Environment Agency (EA) has published an information pack for site operators at Authorised Treatment Facilities (ATFs). The pack contains a guide for site operators on the requirements under the End of Life Vehicle (ELV) legislation for keeping, treating and disposing of ELVs. An accompanying DVD has also been developed providing an overview of how to de-pollute a vehicle and to comply with current legislation.

The EA estimates there are nearly 370 illegal ELV and metal sites in England and Wales representing 350,000m3 of waste worth around £17 million. The EU ELV Directive applies to cars, vans and certain three wheeled vehicles and its aims include the prevention of pollution from sites where ELVs are stored or treated (de-polluted).
